Loop Lighting
Loop Lighting is a type of classical lighting that makes a shadow appear next to the nose. This is usually to the right or left of the nose and it looks like a circular shape/the tip of the nose. Loop lighting is flattering to most faces when done correctly.
To create a loop lighting portrait, you should have a light source either above the person's head or slightly to the side of their head but still high. When the light is up above their head it casts a shadow down from the nose and onto the face. You should always keep the light above eye level in order to insure that the shadow is cast to the side of the nose rather than below it.
You would use loop lighting if you were shooting a portrait of someone and wanted shadows to be displayed on the face in a flattering and delicate way.
